The Medieval Italian Cultural Association established the © Italian Medieval Literary Award, reserved for short stories and unpublished freely inspired by the Middle Ages. A Philobiblon are also dedicated a blog ed un gruppo Facebook.

Philobiblon?

The name we have chosen for the © Italian Medieval Literary Award refers to a work of Richard of Bury (1287-1345), monaco benedettino inglese, Chancellor of King Edward III, which was tutor. He finished just a year before his death the Philobiblon, written in Latin, text that would have assured him the gratitude and affection of generations of bibliophiles. Moral treatise in praise of reading and manual bibliofilia dedicated to the choice, the retrieval, the preservation of books, the text is also available online in the original uncut version in Latin.

Regulation

Participating in the competition is simple and free. Simply fill out the form below in all its parts and attach the file with the story. The file must be in formato RTF (Rich Text Format, obtainable by saving the file with Microsoft Word, Open Office, Libre Office and other common text editor) and must contain titolo e testo completo del racconto.

The story must be unpublished, of property of the author who submits to the Secretariat of the Prize and must not exceed in length the 20.000 jokes, including spaces. The works do not comply with the directives will be excluded from the Competition. Each competitor is required to send one story. Gli autori dei racconti pubblicati si impegnano a cedere i diritti all’organizzazione del Premio.

The authors of the stories classified in the first three places and other authors reported by the jury will be given personalized plates, ACIM card valid for one year and their stories will be published online on the portal of the Association and in print by Italian Medieval.

The winners will be notified and the authors reported directly by the Secretariat of the Prize. The results of the Prize will be published on portal of the Cultural Medieval Italy.

The works must be postmarked by 20 August 2018. The award winners of the stories take place in Milan on the last Saturday of November 2018.

Designed and launched in 2006, This Award has immediately achieved an considerable success, both for the quantity for which the average quality of the work, to the point that a careful editor of Chieti (Tabula Fati) has decided to publish the five stories that the jury had designated as the best. This led to Italiane Medievalis Historiae, volume of 80 pages in which, as Luke says in the preface Molinini: "The stories of the authors of the literary prize finalists Philobiblon carry us a long time ago, presenting the daily mystery masterfully. The reader who will venture through these pages will have the opportunity to “read” the Middle Ages in its many forms, by careful and detailed descriptions of the enigmatic characters, to the nuances of everyday normality educated in the most imaginative and romantic legends and episodes of history ".

We are finally able to communicate the results of the first edition. The work of the Jury was much longer and more difficult than expected, both the quantity and the quality of the films in competition, so as to generate winners on an equal footing and let us give two special mentions.
